Robert Love is a Partner and heads up the firm’s busy and well respected Education Law Department which consists of four Solicitors and a Member of the Institute of Legal Executives who are supported by a team of experienced and dedicated administrative staff.
Robert qualified as a Solicitor in 1975 and started to work in Education Law as a result of his own experience of securing appropriate provision for his son Jonathan, who was severely brain damaged at birth. Hence Robert has empathy for parents going through the Statementing process and can understand the emotional pressure parents are under when trying to find the right provision or placement for their child. Robert has been practising in this area of law for 25 years during which time the law has developed and evolved with the introduction of the 1981 Education Act followed by the 1993 and 1996 Education Acts which have greatly improved parents’ rights and the lot of children with Special Educational Needs. As a result, Robert has been instructed in many of the high profile cases which have developed today’s Education Law.
In addition to managing a busy department which deals with over 200 appeals a year to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (“SEND Tribunal”) Robert continues to have his own caseload and remains directly involved with cases. He lectures on the law relating to Special Educational Needs in conferences across the country.
Robert is considered to be one of the most experienced and high profile Solicitors in this area as acknowledged in the Chambers and Partners Legal Directory 2009 which states
“Based in Gloucester, this “extremely supportive” firm has a national education practice that is heavily focused on privately funded SENDIST work, including matters relating to Dyslexia, Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome. The firm attracts high praise from clients, who appreciate the “measured and sensible advice” on offer here, adding: “They never let you lose sight of what you’re trying to achieve and always return your calls.” ……… Robert Love “understands parental concerns and the appeals process better than anyone else,” report clients. A “charming and extremely well-organised” lawyer, he is “never totally legalistic and always careful to hold your hand throughout the process.””
